Pounamu / NZ Greenstone Pendant – Sold
New Zealand Jade (also known as greenstone or pounamu) is only found in certain areas within the South Island. Long prized by the Maori, it is considered a ‘taonga’ (treasure).
This spectacular pendant is sure to generate plenty of compliments! A one-off creation, it has been hand made using a disc of solid, genuine New Zealand greenstone (nephrite jade).
The
photo above is taken with her sitting on top of my beautiful, huge quartz crystal ball for a fabulous energetic cleanse and re-charge. This picture shows the gentle green tones of the swirls and spirals, which are hard to capture (please click on any picture if you would like a bigger view).
I have photographed the pendant under different lighting conditions for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the subtlety of the shimmering finish gets lost when photographed in direct sunlight (it’s actually a soft, irridescent green) – but also to show how the beautiful emerald-green colour of the jade changes in every light…
The jade itself has many subtleties in shading and, like a living being, can be chameleon-like – appearing different shades and tones of green under different lights.
As you can see – the jade comes alive and glows with the light behind it – a beautiful, translucent and vivid green.
Viewing the pendant against an outdoor setting, shows off its sensuous, organic curves. It’s so ‘at home’ in this environment and has been inspired by nature and the New Zealand countryside.
To create a pendant befitting of the esteem in which New Zealand jade is held, I have utilised the ‘koru’ symbol – the spiral shape of the unfurling new leaves of the silver fern – symbolizing new life, growth, strength and peace.
Accented with six sparkling CZ crystals to catch the light – two in peridot green and four clear ones.
She seems to adapt to blend in with the greens of the agapanthus, the edges of the greenstone glowing in harmony with the leaves… just beautiful!
This unique, one-off creation is $150 NZD – including free shipping within New Zealand & Australia.
